Quick Gift: Tawashi ‘Candy’

lpAPRw1p2crochet12_lgI was cruising through CraftStylish just now, and ran across these crocheted tawashis. And one of those random connections happened.  It must be because Christmas is approaching.

Linda Permann gives instructions for making these little cleaning scrubbies out of cotton. (You could probably find some nylon twine at the local hardware store if you want a slightly more abrasive one for pots and pans, which is closer to how you normally find these little items in stores.)

Okay, fine, whatever, sounds like another minor stash-buster, sure, of limited interest, perhaps.

Ah, but one of her readers, tzeni, made hers of red and white acrylic. Make them in these Christmasy colors so they resemble peppermint candies (with or without the added hanging loop), wrap each one up in a twist of tawashi_lg.JPGcellophane (available at a stationary store or grocery store or often with the Christmas gift wrap), and give a basket or bowl of them for quick, cute Christmas presents.

(I think I’d put in a short explanation in about what a tawashi is for, though, or there may be some mystification involved.)

Personally, I’ve never really been interested in knitting dishcloths, and really don’t get the appeal, although I realize that there must be an appeal, since so many people do them. But these I could do, I’m thinking.
