They. Match. Perfectly.

matchymatchy3301109Only another knitter who has worked with and struggled with working with self-patterning yarns will understand the absolutely miraculous, jaw-droppingly astounding accomplishment blogged by The Yarn Harlot on November 30, 2009.

Only another knitter who has obsessed about getting those socks to look the same, those sleeves to knit up the same, for everything, in short, that is supposed to look the same as the other thing that it is supposed to look the same as, to actually do so without tearing every single hair off your head in frustration, without throwing the knitting out into the traffic, without swearing entirely off knitting forever, will understand.

Did the world end and I just missed the email?

As she says herself:

Sure, other projects will go on to screw me over,  absolutely the next pair of self-patterning yarn will have a knot that means the toes are two different colours, and when that happens, I’ll  accept it, just the same way we all suck up  the worlds imperfections.  You can’t have things your way all the time.  Got it – but today?

Today I am a knitter, and my socks match anyway.
Shazam.

And because of what The Yarn Harlot hath wrought, my darlings, we may all celebrate a collective triumph over the darkness.
