White Lies Style

rubystylingguidedateJoan McGowan-Michael of White Lies Designs wants to help you wear her designs with panache and gobs of style.

Her new Styling Guide entries on the White Lies Knits! blog are really well done — giving examples and pictures of a way to wear each of her designs, most of which are retro or vintage in design, complete with accessories and jewelry. She’s clearly put a lot of work and thought into each entry, and I have really enjoyed reading the entries so far.

While Joan concentrates on designer pieces to go with her designs, it’d be easy enough to find similar pieces in your big box store or local high street. (Shoes might be tough to find, though — nothing else is quite like a designer shoe!)

I love discovering how a designer envisions their clothing being worn! It also opens a window onto the piece itself, if you’re of a designer mindset yourself, giving clues to proportion and other key elements of the design.

Posting on Ravelry about the new Styling Guide entries, she said:

When teaching and traveling, I’ve met many knitters who work hard to do a great job on their projects, only to find themselves stumped when it’s time to integrate that piece into their wardrobe.

To help with this, I’ve begun posting a styling guide on my blog using my White Lies Designs patterns.

Brava, Joan!
