Gorgeous shrug, free pattern!

Gorgeous free pattern source alert!

One of my very favorite LYSs is Loop, in London. It’s no longer (*sob*) my local, but I still shop there online, and whenever I’m in London, I drop in to squish the beautiful yarns and chat with Susan’s lovely staff (when they’re not too busy rushing about helping customers, which is the more normal default state).

Loop is moving to a new building just steps away from Angel station in Camden Passage. I can hardly wait to get in there! I have no doubt the new shop will be truly lovely; Susan has a truly marvelous design sense.

Loop has also started up their blog, the Loop Knit Lounge, JuJu has already put up a beautiful shawl pattern (which features a really interesting stitch pattern ideal for showing off those handpainted yarns that are a bit on the blotchy side), but I’m eagerly awaiting the next pattern, due up this week, and JuJu has now added a pattern for a gorgeous shrug, the Layering Shrug. It’s loose and drapey and flattering to a wide range of body types (not something you can say about the standard shrug shape, which is, speaking in generalizations, normally Just Not Flattering to anyone with a lot of curve to their upper halves). For summer, I plan to make it in a yarn heavy on the silk percentage. For winter…oooh, maybe this will be when I splurge on the Madelinetosh!

Thanks for the tip-off (Crow Waltz looks intriguing!). Have you seen the Enchanted Shrug from The Knitter? A similarly flattering shape. Ooh, now I’m browsing more from that designer and wondering how come I’ve not seen her stuff before – some of it’s really fabulous!

Ooh, no, will have to go look quite soon! Right after I look for a windshield repair shop….it can be my treat for getting that done. *sigh*

  2. I couldn’t find the shawl (got a 404 error when i clicked on ‘projects’, but the shrug pattern is GOR-GEE-YOUS!
AND as a hyper curvy gal, it looks WONDERFUL for me.

Yeah Zina! Thanks for all the nice things you are saying about me and Loop! Are you able to come over for our new shop launch?

Oh, don’t remind me, JuJu! My original ticket back to the UK would have made it…but we’ve had to move it to give the immigration folks more time to get everything together, and now I don’t get back until July 5. *sob*

I am making this Layering Shrug and having a problem understanding it. Sleeve 1 is knit in the round and has 90 stitches until you do cast ons (plus 7 stitches) and then 144 increase rows. It then says to go back to the round with 90 stitches but does not instruct how to decrease back down to the 90 stitches before the cast offs and change to the round. Please help.

      Hi Wendy,

I can’t help with your specific question but on Ravelry.com there are 172 people that’ve knit this garment and the author of the pattern is on Ravelry so maybe someone there can answer your question.

    • Zina says:

Hi Wendy, sorry it took me so long to get back to you as things in my life have been…kind of crazy the last few months. Abby is correct — Juju is your best bet, and you can easily get hold of her through Ravelry!

I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as
with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself?
Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice
blog like this one these days.
